Computer Scientists In Quest to Build Algorithm To Tackle COVID-19

With more than 153000 confirmed cases and 5700 deaths worldwide, there is no sign of Coronavirus or COVID-19 being stopped anytime soon. As per the claims made by health professionals, the count is expected to drastically hike in the coming days. So, computer scientists are in quest to build algorithms to tackle COVID-19.

While medical researchers and doctors are doing their bit as much as possible, IT professionals which include machine learning researchers are doing what they know best; getting insights from the available data to fight the disease.

A lot of data on COVID-19 is present on Kaggle, a data science competition platform by Google and is updated every day with the new cases. The data is reliable and has most of the necessary information including location, age of the patient, when and where they caught the virus, when they get admitted to the hospital, among many others. Using this data, computer scientists are in quest to build algorithms to tackle COVID-19. 

Apart from this, two Indian-origin researchers from Australia and the US are also developing apps capable of accessing the risk of COVID-19. These apps would be able to reach among masses, educate them about the disease, deliver accurate, relevant and reliable information matching their symptoms and safeguard them from the unnecessary fear.

Computer scientists are in quest to build algorithms to tackle COVID-19 and these apps would be really easy to use. The individuals will only have to fill a detailed questionnaire with all the data after which an AI-based algorithm would assess all this information. Following this assessment, it will send a risk assessment report, if you have no risk, minimal risk, moderate or high risk. Also, this information is sent to the nearest facility as well and notifies them that a health check is needed for this person. 

These apps are aimed to identify the people who are most likely to catch the COVID-19 virus and expedite their treatment so that the chances of spreading it can be reduced.
