Precaution is better than cure. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the entire world is under lockdown. It has become impossible for employees to reach their offices. So, most organisations have either shut their businesses or asked their workforce to work from home. Amid such crises, IT industry leaders, Google and Facebooks are likely to extend work from home till this year-end.

The novel coronavirus is the first of its kind and hence social distancing and staying at home are the ways to combat it. So far, researches in many great institutions are under progress and no cure has been discovered yet. Therefore, Google and Facebook have recently announced that their workforce will do work from home until the end of 2020.
Facebook has decided not to open its office campuses till 6 July 2020 at least. Those are doing work from home will continue to do it till the year-end. However, it is yet to be finalised about which teams will come to the office.
Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has said that the company is planning to slow down to come back to the office. He further added that the employees whose work profile doesn’t allow them to take work from homes, such as those engineers who work on the complex hardware and content reviewers who work on self-harm prevention or suicide and counter-terrorism may return sooner.

Google has also decided that the major part of its workforce would do work from home till this year-end. In April, Sundar Pichai sent an email to all his employees stating that Alphabet and Google have decided to slow down the recruitment for the year 2020.
There are reports which state that the company’s CEO Sundar Pichai has already highlighted the key areas wherein Google would do cost-cutting. The company would be investing in areas like machine and data centres and, and non-business essential marketing and travel.
