Taking its technological features at higher levels of advancement, Telegram, which is one of the most popular instant messaging software and application services has recently announced that it is all set to launch group video call feature in May.
The information was given by Founder Pavel Durov on his official Telegram channel where he mentioned, “we will be adding a video dimension to our voice chats in May, making Telegram a powerful platform for group video calls. Screen sharing, encryption, noise-cancelling, desktop and tablet support — everything you can expect from a modern video conferencing tool, but with Telegram-level UI, speed and encryption. Stay tuned!”

After changes in the existing privacy policy by WhatsApp, many users turned towards using Telegram as a new alternative and it has already added hundreds and thousands of new users in the recent past. While announcing that Telegram has added 400 million users, it also said that the lockdown global lockdown has highlighted the requirement of new video conferencing tools and hence it will roll out the same by the end of 2020.
However, things didn’t turn out the way they were supposed to as Telegram took more than a quarter of 2021 to come up with a video calling platform. Pavel Durov also said that the recently launched Telegram’s web versions are currently testing “a functional version of web-based video calls internally, which will be added soon. The Webk and Webz versions of the web app are “by far the most cross-platform versions of Telegram we shipped so far”, and noting that no downloads or installs are required to access your chats via the browser.
He further added that this is particularly good for corporate environments where installing native apps is now always allowed, but also good for users who like the instant nature of web sites.
